Statistics and resources
In 2005, more than 40,000 reports of child abuse and neglect occurred in Wisconsin. This means, one child is reported abused and neglected in our state at a shocking rate of every 13 minutes.Statistics show far more children are victims of serious physical abuse within their homes than are injured in acts of violence elsewhere. Research estimates that 1 in 4 girls, and 1 in 6 boys will be the victim of some form of abuse by the age of 18. Child abuse can happen in any home, in any neighborhood, and may be even closer than you think. As concerned community members, we need to take responsibility for the protection and care of our children.
